1 hardware store, 1 laundromat, Post Office, 2 real estate offices,
full service hair salon, veterinarian, video store, a
gift shop and 3 churches.

to the Kings trail. Walk on the stone trail made by the ancient
Hawaiians.
South Point Cliffs-
30 minutes away. Miles of sandy and rocky coastline.

Punalu`u Black Sand
Beach- 40 minutes away. This is where the Hawksbill
sea turtles come to rest on the beach. It's a beautiful palm
tree lined black sand beach.
Whittington Beach
Park/ Hono`apu Reserve - 30 minutes away. This is a
rocky beach park and has interesting tide pools and marshlands
to explore.
Miloli`i Beaches -
45 minutes away. Several beaches to explore here.
Green Sand Beach- 1 1/2
hour (4 wheel drive road). An hours hike from South Point Road.
A beach with interesting clifts.
Ho`okena Beach-
50 minutes away. A beautiful white sand beach.
Pebble Beach - 45 minutes away. Small black
pebbles make up this beach.
South Point Beach Park-
30 minutes away. Miles of sandy and rocky coastline.
Road to the Sea
- 45 minutes away (4 wheel drive road). A beautiful bay with
many nice beaches and rarely any people.

Places
South Kona Fruit Stand - 50 minutes
away. Right off the main highway between mile markers 103 and
104. This is the best place on the island to get wonderful exotic
fruit at its best. Not only do they have organic tropical fruit,
they have other locally produced things like Kona Coffee, Macadamia
nuts, dried fruit, snacks, and even a smoothie bar and deli.
It's right between the City of Refuge in Ho`onaunau and Ho`okena
Beach.
Puuhonua
O Honaunau National Park (City of Refuge) 50 minutes
away. Step back in time to a sanctuary of Hawaiis past.
This place provided refuge to Hawaiians who came here. Today,
the park continues as a sanctuary for visitors seeking a peaceful
place and as a safe haven for all of the native wildlife living
here.
Wood
Valley Temple - A special place to visit and meditate.
The authentic Buddhist temple is beautiful. Wood Valley is located
at the end of the road through the tiny town of Pahala, just
past Punalu`u Beach.
Hawaii - The
BIG Island - The largest island and the least populated
per square mile. Home of Kilauea, the world's most active Volcano,

of the 14 known climate zones in the world - from desert lavascapes
to tropical rain forests to beaches to snow on the peaks of
13,000 foot volcanoes.
Hilo, on the wet side, is the county seat while
Kona on the dry side is the most popular destination. Total
area is 4,038 sq. miles - 93 miles long and 76 miles wide with
266 miles of coastline. The population is a little over 120,000
residents.
The highest point is Mauna Kea at 13,796 ft above
sea level and home to a number of world famous astronomical
observatories. Mauna Loa, also stands tall - at 13,680 feet
above sea level and over 31,000 feet when measured from its
rise on the ocean floor - making it the tallest mountain in
the world from base to summit. On its southeast flank you will
find the most active volcano in the world, Kilauea - home to
the legendary Hawaiian goddess, Pele.
