Madame Pele

Madame Pele, The Hawaiian Volcano Goddess, The Goddess of Fire is vaguely seen in the fiery glow of volcanic eruptions. Her shadowy form which is silhouetted by smoke and ash, drifts with the wind through Hawaiian skies. Her voice is heard echoing through the Ohia tree forests. These are her sacred trees and are first to grow where her lava has covered the earth below. Ohia Lehua blossoms are soft feathery flowers in shades of red and yellow, her favorite colors, the colors of fire and fluid lava. Madame Pele takes on various forms; some seeing her as an ancient old woman with long wispy white hair and dress. Others see her as a beautiful young maiden with thick black hair and a flowing red dress, emulating the lava she controls with her temper. Pele can be violent and strong, showing no mercy to those who anger her. Other times she is merciful, sparing the sacred places and lives she chooses.

old menehune menehune group

Large - Old Man Menehune (8"high) Small - Menehune (2" -  4"  high)

These Menehune are shown in the playful ways in which they sometimes appear. They wear ti leaf styled costumes and  sometimes a feather look cloak resembling the King. The old man Menehune is giving the "Shaka" sign; a Hawaiian "Hello."

Menehunes.....An old Hawaiian legend reveals the story of the Menehune, or Hawaiian Elf. They are thought to be very small, from 3" to 12" tall, with pointed ears and stocky bodies. To keep from being seen they only come out at night. During the day they live underground in lava tubes or holes dug into the earth. The Hawaiian goddess Ra`i Ra`i was chosen to watch over the little Menehune folk and she knew that they loved to play and make mischief. She would urge them to do their work first and this was when they would be helpful to people in need. It was this way that rock walls and fish ponds appeared miraculously overnight, without anyone seeing or hearing them at work. The only way anyone knew they were there is because they would find tiny little footprints left behind. Sometimes people have found mysterious little red marks on their skin, which some believe is where a mischievous Menehune has pinched them.

hawaiian santas

Santa Claus goes to Hawaii when the toys are all delivered and the reindeer have been turned out to their winter pasture. With the Christmas rush over, it's time for Santa to go on his much needed vacation. There is no better place than Hawaii's soothing tropical breezes, warm glistening waters and the friendly aloha spirit to bring him back each year.  He spends his days relaxing on the beach, surfing, snorkeling and sunbathing. Refreshing tropical drinks are his favorite way to keep cool.

Santa is riding on a unique surfboard that is handmade out of Hawaiian Koa wood.
