Volcanoes National Park recently acquired this 116,000 acre uncharted section of the Kahuku Mountain range which used to be a private ranch. There are many archeological sites and endangered plant life yet to be recorded. You might be one of the first hikers to access many of these areas. 

Hale O Ao hiking cabin is the closest vacation rental near this area and a perfect place to stay while exploring the park, the southern part of Hawaii and the surrounding areas.
